Funhouse Comedy Night at Old BellDate: Fri 12th Dec Time: 20:00 Christmas Special Comedy night at the Old Bell Hotel, Derby Following the successful launch night last month, Funhouse Comedy Club returns to The Old Bell Hotel, Derby on Friday December 12th for a Christmas Special night of comedy. Headlining the night is comedian, writer, radio broadcaster and TV presenter Nick Page. Often recognised as a previous presenter of BBC property programme ‘Escape to the Country’, he accidentally fell into comedy as a bet, but soon turned professional after his first open mic appearance. With his mixture of cynical observation and storytelling he complains about the frustrations of dealing with the overstretched British justice system, resulting in a truly hilarious act. Support comes from the effortlessly engaging, Andrew Bird. Watching The Young Ones with his brothers as an eight year old, at two in the morning on Comic Relief, he realized then that he wanted to be funny in some way. With his personal appeal and superbly crafted, funny anecdotes he captivates his audiences. He has supported Rhod Gilbert and Lee Hurst as well as performing internationally. Completing the line-up will be Shazia Mirza, an international award-winning comedian and columnist for the Guardian Weekend magazine who has also guested on ‘Have I Got News For You?’ From Birmingham she was previously a science teacher with one of her former pupils being the rapper Dizzee Rascal. Star of radio and TV she has appeared on ‘Last Comic Standing’, ‘Richard and Judy’ and more recently ‘The Wright Stuff’. Shazia’s distinctive act combines a deadpan delivery with observation on her world; her laconic one-liners represent something quite unique in modern comedy. Compere for the night is the festive and funny Spiky Mike.
